Journalist Dean Jones believes that Ange Postecoglou is still not satisfied with his options at centre-back despite signing Radu Dragusin last month, with Tottenham expected to strengthen their backline further in the summer.
Dragusin showed plenty of promise at Genoa in the 18 months prior to his move to Spurs and Tottenham fans will be hoping that the Romanian can evolve into one of the best in the world under the watchful eyes of Postecoglou.
The 22-year-old has had to be patient since his switch to Hotspur Way, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero being the Australian coach’s first-choice pairing.
Some reports over recent weeks have indicated that Tottenham have shelved their plans to go after Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer as the club do not want to spend big on another centre-back (Football Insider).
Tottenham intend to sign another top-level centre-back
However, Jones has explained that the plan at Spurs was to always make multiple additions at centre-half, with the club now continuing to study various defenders ahead of the summer.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “The situation hasn’t changed, and Tottenham have always intended to sign two top-level centre-backs across 2024. They’ve got one through the door, and now, in the summer window, the plan is to go after another.
“Calafiori and Morato might be mentioned now, but the net is being cast wider than that. They’ve got some interesting options opening up to them. Still, from what I understand, they’re not committing at this stage, even though they want to make early moves in the summer transfer window similar to how they did in the winter market.”

If Tottenham were to sign a centre-back in the summer, it would be a young player of the profile of Calafiori. The Bologna star would be a great option as he would be relatively inexpensive and also capable of operating as an emergency number six.
